He played in 426 games with 283 hits that included 50 doubles, 11 triples, and 4 home runs. 1938 was his best season when he played in 135 games, hit .261, scored 59 runs, and garnered enough MVP votes to place 25th in the National League.
After his playing career ended, he was a player-manager for the Jacksonville Tars in the South Atlantic League, a Giants farm team, from 1946 to 1948. He then scouted for the Giants in Texas and the Southwest from 1949 until his death from colon cancer in 1970.
