George Anthony Humble was born on 22 January 1849 in Trimdon, Durham, England to George H. Humble and Mary Ann Gates. According to the 1900 and 1910 US Censuses, George immigrated to the United States in 1859.

On 1 November 1869, George married Olive Mehitable Cheney in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Endowment House; which was located in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. To there union twelve children were born. George and Olive lived in Huntington, Utah, for a while, and then eventually settled in Idaho (in the Teton Valley area).
