Sarah 'Sadie' was the 8th of 8 children of Lewis Reynolds, a farmer, and Lydia Sexton. Her siblings were: Isaac, Charles, Viola, Elizabeth, Martha, Mary and Thomas. Her mother died when she was very small, and soon afterward, she was boarded out to a family for labor for several years.
While still a girl, she met her future husband Lewis Ham, a laborer, and they were married in 1893 when she was 16 years old. Lewis and Sarah had 7 children: Leora Margaret, Harry Earl, Cecil Thomas, Charles Edward, Ruth Adelaide, Floyd Allison and Ruby Grace, all born in Iowa. There was also an infant daughter, no name.
After Lewis died in 1936, Sadie left Iowa for Highland Park, California, where she lived with her daughter Leora's family.
When she passed away at age 72, Leora took Sadie back to Iowa to have her buried with her husband.
