Calvin Nathaniel Spears of Sweet Water passed away at UAB Hospital in Birmingham on Tuesday, March 23, 2004. He was 79.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, March 25 at Half Acre Community Cemetery with Rev. Doug McClure officiating.

A native of Jackson County, Spears was born on Dec. 30, 1924. He retired from Trans-Continental, where he worked as a machine operator. He was a veteran and attended Half Acre Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Nanafalia Masonic Lodge, F&AM for 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jean K. Spears of Half Acre; his sister, Evelyn Harper of Scottsboro; and his brother, L.D. Spears of Erin, Tenn.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Dunn, Roland Hale, Frank Cross, Kenneth Tucker, John Payne Thomas and Phillip Poellnitz. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Nanafalia Masonic Lodge.

O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Linden handled the arrangements.
