Hampson McWhorter Corbin was born in Yell, Boone County, Iowa. He was the 6th of 8 children, and the 4th son of James, and Lucinda (McWhorter) Corbin. His siblings included: Joshua McWhorter Corbin, John Anderson Corbin, Louisa, "Lecicy Angeline", James M. Jr., Mahala M. "Hallie", Charlotte, and Nettie Corbin.

Between 1870 and 1875, Hampson moved with his family from Iowa to Beaver, Cowley, Kansas, where he continued to help his father with farming, and where he married his wife, Mary Ellen (Riggs) Corbin.

Hampson and Mary had one (known) daughter, Hallie Corbin. After his wife's mother, Phoebe Riggs, died, he moved his family to Shawnee, Pottawatomie, Oklahoma. H.M. Corbin continued to farm, and he and Mary owned their own home here.
