After they married Joseph Brown and Edy Brown moved to Indiana near Joseph's parents. On the 1850 census Joseph and Edy were living in Brown, Martin, Indiana. Joseph was a farmer with real estate valued at $500. Joseph and Edy had seven children; Martha(1837), George F.(1839), James(1841), Squire(1842), John(1847), Mary(1850) and Louisa. Louisa was born on January 22, 1853 in Terre Haute, Vigo, Indiana. All of Louisa's older siblings were also born in Indiana, with the exception of James who was born in Tennessee. So the family had moved back to Tennessee for a short period of time, then returned to Indiana. On the 1850 census George F. was listed as an "idiot". He was 11 years old then.

The family moved to Putnam County, Missouri shortly after Louisa was born. Edy died there when Louisa was a baby or toddler, (between 1853 and 1856) and is buried in Putnam County. When Edy died she was 42 to 45 years old. Her children's ages were from one to 19 years was born.

Joseph's birthdate was determined by 1850 census that says he was born in 1816 and was 34 yrs old.

From Robert Harold Goodwin:
"From the research I have done, Louisa was the last child of Edith's before she died. It is possible that she died in child birth or as the result of
child birth. Consider the following:

1.According to Louisa's Death Cert. she was born 22 Jan 1853 in Terra Haute, Ind.
2. According to the deed records of Green Co., Ind. Joseph Brown was a resident of Greene Co. from at least 1854 when he bought land in Greene Co. to April 1856 when he sold his land there to his father Truelove Brown. Edith is not named in the deed, indicating that she was probably dead by then.
3.The first record of Joseph Brown in Putnam Co., MO is his marriage toRacheal Rogers 31 oct, 1856.
4. Racheal Morgan married 1st John Spencer 12 Sep 1853 in Putnam Co. 2nd John W. Rogers 2 Feb 1855 - both marriages were childless."
