John Kirk, Former Snyder Resident Buried Here

Funeral services for John Kirk, former Snyder resident and peace officer, were held at the Baptist Church here last Thursday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. John C. McDonald, pastor of the Church of Christ.

Kirk, who had resided at Fruita, Colo. a number of years had been in bad health for some time and was visiting the home of his half-brother, Arthur Kirk, near Tipton, where he died last Thursday morning.

John Franklin Kirk was born January 1, 1873, at Nashville, Tenn., and passed away at the age of 69 years, three months, and twenty-seven days.

He was united in marriage to Josie May Howard on September 3, 1897, and to this union five children were born: John Roy, Joseph Arlie, Josie Hazel, Opal and Dave Franklin. John, Josie and Dave preceded him in death.

He was a resident of Snyder from September 1917 to February 1928, a period of eleven years, a part of which he served as city marshal. For the past fourteen years he lived in Fruita, Colo., and Santa Rosa, Calif. He was a deputy sheriff at Fruita for five years.

To mourn his death is his wife, Josie Kirk, and children Joseph Kirk, Los Angeles, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nowlin, Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Mrs. Juanita Dill, Mrs. Jessie Parker, Mrs. June Roberts, Frank Kirk, Billie Rae McDonald, Brent Kirk, Kirk Nowlin, and one great-granddaughter, Jo An Dill. There are four brothers, W.K. Kirk, Tipton; A.T. Kirk, Fruitland, Tex.; Tom Kirk, Post Oak, Tex.; Bedford Kirk, Grandfield; three half-brothers, Arthur Kirk, Tipton; Dan Kirk, Tipton, and Ray Kirk, Santa Rosa, Calif., and three sisters, Myrtle O'Brien, Waco, Tex., Josie Arnold and Mary Austin, Dallas, Tex. Interment was made in Fairlawn Cemetery.
