Thomas Gattis was the likely son of Green C. Gattis and Ellen J. Wade. His parents married March 20, 1861 in Lincoln County, Tennessee.
During the Civil War, records reflect that his father enlisted in Company C, of the Tennessee 6th Infantry Regiment where he served as Private for the Confederacy. After the Civil War, Thomas Samuel Gattis was born.
Thomas Samuel Gattis became the husband of Ida Templeton Gattis. They married in Lincoln County, Tennessee. By 1900, three children had been born from their union: Floyd, Roy, and Alta. His occupation was noted as farming.
The couple had at least four more children, Emma, Elsie, and Fred. According to Ida's gravestone, she died in 1906, which would have been the same year Fred was born.
His wife passed in 1906. At the 1910 census, Samuel Thomas Gattis was enumerated as a widower with two additional chidren, Cora and Victor.
Thomas S. Gattis died in 1951. He and his wife are buried at Steep Hill Cemetery.
