OBITUARY- Carlinville Democrat. June 11, 1891 -At one time Austin was numbered among the largest landowners in the county but before his death, he disposed of the greater part of his large estate to his children. In this, he was shown the wisdom of the keen men of that day who were learning to be their own executors and no longer trust the uncertain processes of the probate court. The newly wedded life of our subject and his estimable wife was of brief duration and was terminated by his death a few months later. He was in his usual good health,
having plowed all forenoon, ate a hearty dinner, and as was customary with him, took an after dinner nap. He awoke about 2:00, and after having given his son and son-in-law some directions as to the work for the afternoon, in passing from one room of his house to another, he fell, gasped once or twice, and died. He was a man highly esteemed by his neighbors and had gained by his residence here an extensive
acquaintance and many friends. His loss is sadly felt by his sorrowing wife, his bereaved children and his many friends. A public-spirited citizen, he richly deserved the honor and esteems freely granted him by his neighbors, and his memory will be held in loving remembrance for many years yet to come.

"We mourn for him whose life has flown
Out from its fragile shell of clay
Into the nightless perfect day,
To reap the fruit that here was sown."

Dying on June 4, 1891, the funeral service was held at Charity Church in Bird Township on Saturday. Internment was in the church's cemetery.
