Ray was my husband's maternal grandfather.

He was the youngest of four children born to Charles Robert Fletcher and Harriet WANTY Fletcher.

He was married to Mary Barbara HOPPERDIETZEL in Winona, MN, on 16 Nov 1927.

Together they had five children:

Harriet Leila (1930)
John "Jack" Charles (1931)
Richard James (1932)
Rae Ellen (1939)

Ray served in the U.S. Army during WWI.

He worked most of his life as a brakeman for the Soo Line Railroad.

Cause of death: Heart Attack.

Raymond A. Fletcher, 86, formerly of 2101 Minnesota Ave., died this morning at River Pines Community Health Center, where he had been a resident since September.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel, where friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Daniel Litzer of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, town of Grand Rapids.

Berens-Schribner Post No. 6, American Legion; Portage County Barracks 1782, Veterans of World War I; and General McGlachlin Post 568, Veterans of Foreign Wars; will hold a combined ritual at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Fletcher was born Jan. 8, 1894, in the town of Buena Vista, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fletcher. He attended Amherst High School and Wausau Business College. He began working for the Soo Line in 1916, until entering the Army Sept. 20, 1917. He served in France during World War I and was discharged as a private on May 7, 1919.

He returned to Stevens Point and worked for the Soo Line until retiring as a conductor in 1963. He married Mary Hopperdietzel on Nov. 16, 1927, in Winona, Minn. The couple settled at the Minnesota Street address in 1932. She died in 1972.

He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, Portage County Senior Citizens, Soo Line Veterans Employees Association and United Transportation Union.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Peter (Jean) Konopacky, San Diego, Calif., Mrs. C.J. (Harriet) Fritsch, La Crosse, and Mrs. W.W. (Rae Ellen) Lyons, Aloha, Ore.; two sons, John, Mount Prospect, Ill., and Richard, Montgomery, Ala.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
