SAYS LIFE PALLS BECAUSE OF DEATHS OF RELATIVES

Samuel McCalla, Well Known Monroe County Farmer, Commits Suicide by Shooting Himself.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Nov. 15-Samuel McCalla, 72 years old and one of the most prominent citizens of the county, committed suicide early today by shooting himself with a revolver. After partaking of breakfast, he walked out in his front yard, opened his mouth and sent the bullet through his upper jaw into his brain. After a search about the house had been made, a note was found in a second floor room that said that Mr. McCalla was tired of life. It said: "I have been blessed with the pleasure of living three score years, ten and two, and as a citizen, soldier and friend, I have always lived an honest, upright life, but during the last ten years I have lived in sorrow, sickness and death, and I am tired of life."

Mr. McCalla's sister, Miss Margaret, one of the city's most honored school teachers for many years, and for whom the new McCalla Building was named, died within the last 18 months, as did also his other sister and his brother. He was never married, but lived alone on one of the most beautiful farms in the county, one mile east of the city.
