The Gardners were a prominent Washington Court House family. There is a Gardner Park and Gardner Court, off South Main St., was established with homes for retired Methodist ministers.
Edith Gardner lived at 205 W. Circle Ave. in beautiful and elegant home. After her death, it was torn down and replaced with a stylish, modern home.
Lest this story be lost to time, at the base of the home, and slightly to the right, there is a small fish pond. In Edith's lifetime that area was manicured and the pond stocked with goldfish. Willard Schiller, my dad, had a paper route when he was about 12, so around 1945. While delivering papers he would stop and look at the goldfish in the pond occasionally. Edith, fearing mischief I'm sure, would come out and shoo him away. I've added a photo of that pond which can only be seen in wintertime.
