Hattie Costello of Harpers Ferry

Hattie Marcus Costello, 78 of RT 2, Harpers Ferry died on June 30 at her residence.
She was born in Clarek County on May 7, 1904 and was a daughter of the late James and Ida Trenary Marcus.
Mrs. Costello was the widow of Thorton Oliver Costello, who preceded her in death in June 13, 1968. She was also preceded by two sons, Glen and Jackie Costello.
She was a member of the Mission Tabernacle near Harpers Ferry.
Survivors are five sons, James Oliver Costello of Berkeley Springs, W. Va., Rufus Clinton Costello of Enterprise, Ala., John Wesley Costello of Verona, Va., Phillip Marcus Costello of Leesburg, and Gerald Matthew Costello of Salisbury, Md., four daughters, Catherine Newlin of Purcellville, Mary Jane Wynkoop of Hamilton, Joyce Cynthia Hough of Purcellville, and Gloria June Newkirk of Leesburg; one brother, Turner Marcus of Berryville; four sisters, Minnie Pomeroy of Pottstown, Pa., Patience Marcus of Baltimore, Md., Lutie Marcus of Beltsville, Md. and Margaret Wadsworth of National Park, N.J.; 21 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville, July 3, with the Rev. Lee Strickler officiating. Internment was in the Hillsboro Cemetery at Hillsboro.
Pallbearers were James Carter, Rodger Stillwill, Wayne Conley, Larry Slusher, Elzy Longerbeam and Charles Clark. Honorary pallbearers were Lee Strickler, Jr., Robert Longerbeam, Elzy Longerbeam, Jr., Sherman Marcus, James Carter, Jr. and Randy White.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of Mission Tabernacle, c-o Rev. Lee Strickler, Rt 1-Box 177 A-5, Kearnysville, W. Va. 25430.

February 2012 - Hattie's son confirmed with Joanne Marcus Britcher that "Jackie" in the above obituary is incorrect. The statement was to reference one of the twin boys born in 1945 was still-born. The baby was named, but it could not be recalled.
