She was born July 8, 1917, in Sciota, Ill., to Jesse and Albirdie Hensley Likes. She married Lloyd L. Dunn on June 12, 1937, in McDonough County. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1991, in Morton. Also preceding her in death are one sister, Martha Lee Myers and one brother, Kenneth Likes.
Surviving are her children, Joyce (Ken) Blankenship of San Marcos, Calif., Jim Dunn of East Peoria, Mary (Larry) Smith of East Peoria and Edward Q. (Sue) Dunn of Mackinaw; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary (Jerry) Taylor of Missouri.
She attended Western Illinois University in Macomb and received her degree in elementary education from Bradley University.
She taught elementary classes at Groveland and Creve Coeur schools for 35 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Illinois Education Association. Before beginning her teaching career, she sold World Book Encyclopedia door to door, then working for Bergner's and Caterpillar Inc.
She was a member of The Evangelical United Brethren Church of East Peoria and later was a member of Calvary Bible Baptist Church of Peoria. A woman of deep Christian faith, she taught Sunday School for many years.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the Wilton Mortuary in Peoria. The Rev. Steve Weber will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the mortuary. Burial will be in Fondulac Township Cemetery in East Peoria.
