NORFOLK - Margaret Wilkinson Edmondson, 65, of the 300 block of Westover Ave., died at home surrounded by her loving family Feb. 6, 2001. After a 40 year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis, she died after a short battle with cancer. Ms. Edmondson, a Norfolk native, was the daughter of the late William S. Wilkinson, Jr. and Margaret Priest Wilkinson, both of Norfolk.
Ms. Edmondson graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College and worked on an advanced degree in psychology at the University of Virginia. She worked in psychological testing, developing a particular interest in childhood development. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Good Shepherd. As a deeply spiritual person, Margaret found much nourishment in this association, and her actions reflected the teachings there. Ms. Edmondson was a talented ceramic artist, whose work spanned from functional to figurative. Notwithstanding major adversities in her life, she was known for her sense of humor and tenaciously living life.
Margaret was predeceased by a son, Thomas Tabb Edmondson, and is survived by her son, William Pagon Edmondson, III; her daughter, Susan Edmondson Phillips and her husband, Jerry; her granddaughter, Holland Tabb Phillips; and her two brothers, William Solomon Wilkinson IV and Fenton Priest Wilkinson. She also leaves two nieces, many cousins and faithful friends.
Burial will be at Elmwood Memorial Cemetery, Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Ross M. Wright at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 7400 Hampton Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the MS Society, the American Cancer Society, or the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
