Liz was like a second-mother to me. She was always kind-hearted and she made the best (and only) liver and onion dinner that I ever ate. Liz had a wonderful sense of humor and always made me feel welcome at any time, day or night.

From the Akron Beacon Journal (May 15-17, 2002):

Elizabeth "Liz" Katherine Gates (nee Kovach)

Elizabeth "Liz" Gates, 60, passed away May 13, 2002.

Born in Akron on Sept. 5, 1941, she was a graduate of East High School in 1959 and attended the University of Akron.

A member of Fairlawn Lutheran Church, she had worked at the Bellows Sign Co. and the Professional Bowlers Association. Liz was also a floral designer at several local shops.

Preceded in death by her father and mother, Michael and Elizabeth Kovach, she is survived by her husband of 33 years, Chuck; their sons, Robert (Heather) and Harry (Peggy); grandchildren, Michael and Charley; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Harry (Rainy) Stitzlein, Mrs. Beverly (Jim) Ewing; and brother-in-law, Al bert (Shirley) Gates. Also surviving are her nieces, Lorraine Ewing, Belinda Boucher, Jennifer Gates; nephews, David Ewing, Larry Gates, and Albert Gates III. Liz took great pride in her twin grandsons, Michael and Charley, and also her great-nieces and -nephews, Linnea, Katrina, Robbie, Rainy Rae, Alexis, and Karenna.

Liz will be remembered as an immaculate housekeeper, a woman of generosity and kindness, and a lover of flowers. She enjoyed spending time with her family, many cousins, friends, and her dog, Toots. She was an avid University of Akron Zips fan.
