HEMENWAY RITES HELD
Funeral services were held at 2:30 pm Sunday, Dec 23 at the United Methodist Church in Neligh for Carl W. Hemenway, a life-long area resident and former Antelope County Treasurer. The Rev. Harold Coates officiated at the service and burial was in the Clearwater Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Keith White, Jr., John White, Dennis Herley, Ben Erickson, Gary Busteed and Bob Busteed. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Al Gibson, Harold Kester, Sr., Dewey Hopkins, Fred Benning, Carl Haake, Lawrence Goscha and Elmer Truax. Carl W. Hemenway was born August 3, 1893 at Clearwater to Mr. and Mrs. Mayhew Hemenway and died at Antelope Memorial Hospital on December 20 at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 17 days. As a young man he farmed in the Clearwater community. He was married to Phyrne White on July 31, 1929.
Mr. Hemenway was Antelope County Treasurer from 1935 to 1955 and was a member of the United Methodist Church. A veteran of World War I, he was a 50-year member of the Clearwater American Legion Post 267. Survivors include his widow, Phyrne; two daughters, Mrs. Dwayne Erickson of Sioux City, Ia., and Mrs. Vernon Busteed of Elgin; one son, Keith White, Sr., of Neligh; one sister, Mr. Mae Loewe of Neligh; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

It should be mentioned also that Carl was married first to Florence Hazel Mapes 2/25/1920, and had a son Verner "Vernon" Mapes Hemenway 2/14/1922-6/11/1922. Florence 7/25/1898-1/4/1925.
