Tom Devine was a Deputy Sheriff in Going Snake District, Indian Territory. In 1889 he accompanied Marshall Ben Knight at the arrest of the two Dunowoss boys for killing Wash Lee, a former sheriff of the Going Snake District. His father was James Devine, a permitted white man, and his mother was Mary Lou Devine, a Cherokee woman.

Funeral service for Tom Devine, 87-year-old pioneer Adair County resident, who died Monday, September 29, at the home of a son, Jack Devine, after a several weeks illness, was conducted from the Roberts Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, October 1, with Rev. James Smith, pastor of the Baptist church officiating. Burial was in the Alberty cemetery southeast of town. Mr. Devine was born in 1860. He was married to Miss Mollie Keith and to them were born seven children, only two of whom, Jack and Watie survives. He was at one time a peace officer long before statehood. He was a member of the Baptist church. There are also 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
