After their marriage, Barbara and Frank bought 40 acres of land that adjoined the city limits of New Prague, which they farmed until 1878. In 1878, they sold their land and bought 80 acres of land from the railroad in Renville County, Minnesota.
Barbara and Frank had ten children; six sons, Wenzel (James) who married Catherine Malecek; Frank Vencel, II, who married Rose Svoboda; Joseph who married Anna Trochlil; John Frank who married Elizabeth Wood; and Anton who married Jennie Dworshak; and, four daughters, Marie (Mary) who married John Klepsa; Anna who never married; Rose who married Edmond Goodin; Emma who married Jim Shubert; and Kristine R. who married Matthew W. Dworshak.
Barbara Lukes Wertish died on 30 May 1906. She was buried in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bechyn, Renville County, Minnesota.
