Married Robert Leon Baker, Jr. on June 27, 1987Laura Cay Baker was born in 1961, in Joplin, MO, as the only child of George Mattox and Erna (Cay) Dennis Mattox. She departed this life on Friday, May 8, 2015 in Baton Rouge, La. Her father, George Mattox completed a career in the United States Army and retired at Ft. Smith, AR. Laura attended high school in Ft. Smith and later graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical Science Nurse Practitioner program in 1983. She worked as a professional nurse and focused on women's health, primarily in Baton Rouge. She is remembered as a gentle spirited, compassionate, professional care giver with a creative talent for writing poetry, and a love of music and the arts.

In 1978, she married her soul mate, Robert L. Baker, Jr., PhD, who was the son of the late Dr. Robert L. Baker and wife, Rebecca Baker of Mt. Home, Ar. Rob and Laura spent 26 wonderful years together, traveling and experiencing life, prior to his early death at age 50 in 2008.

In lieu of flowers, she requested any honorarium be made to the Wounded Warrior Program, or the ASPCA, or charity of your choice .

A memorial service was conducted Saturday, May 16, 2015, at the Mountain Home Cemetery under the direction of Roller Funeral Home with her brother in law John Pepper, officiating.
