Henrietta Van DeWeerdt,
Pioneer Resident,
Claimed By Death

Following a short illness, Mrs. Henrietta Van DeWeerdt, 82, a well known resident of near Columbia, died at her ranch home early Tuesday evening. A resident of the Columbia district for 56 years, she came to the United States with her parents in 1885, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Menzes. She had made her home on the Van DeWeerdt Ranch since that time.

Mrs. Van DeWeerdt leaves her husband, Henry Van DeWeerdt, of Columbia; four daughters: Mrs. Bertina Corlet, Sonora; Mrs. Anna Ryden, San Francisco; Mrs. Margaret Miller, Schilling; and Mrs. Christina Ghiorso, Columbia; a brother, Cornelius Menzes, Sonora; a sister, Mrs. Joanna McNear, Oakland; ten grandchildren: Mrs. Bernice Curnow, Shaws Flat; Leo Ghiorso, Francis Ghiorso, Mrs. Mary Raney, Lloyd Ghiorso, Miss Ina Ghiorso, Ronald Ghiorso and Raymond Ghiorso, of Columbia; Miss Helen Miller, of San Francisco; and Miss Betty McNeill, of Sonora; one great-grandson, Alan Curnow, Shaws Flat; and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held from the Burden Chapel at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon with Rev. Chester Hill of St. James' Episcopal Church officiating. Interment will be in Columbia.

Henrietta was preceded in death by some of her children. Her daughter, Theresa, passed away in San Francisco September 2, 1922. She had been a nurse living in Santa Monica near Los Angeles.
