The Correctionville News, 2 April 1986, page 6: Wilfred James Bernard, 65, of Anthon passed away March 27, 1986, in a Sioux City hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were Saturday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sioux City with branch president, John Coleman, officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons, Chad and Shane Petersen, and sons-in-law, Richard McNally, Tom Petersen, Dennis Bahlmann, Randy Dose, James LoJocano, Donald Dixon, Tom Simmons and Michael Gurr. Interment was in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery, Anthon, under direction of Walter Funeral Home. Wilfred, the son of James and Josephine Umhoeffer Bernard, was born May 31, 1920, in Correctionville. He farmed in the Correctionville and Anthon communities and also worked for the ASCS office for several years. He married Marguerite Callahan on September 30, 1940, at Oto. The couple moved into Anthon in 1982 because of Mr. Bernard's health. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Onawa. Survivors include his wife, two sons, John of Westminster, Colorado, and James of Correctionville, nine daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mary) McNally of Fort Worth, Texas, Mrs. James (Anne) LoJocano of Springfield, Virginia, Mrs. Tom (Kay) Petersen of Correctionville, Mrs. Donald (Jane) Dixon of Anthon, Mrs. Dennis (Susan) Bahlmann of Eagle River, Wisconsin, Mrs. Tom (Anita) Simmons of Clarion, Iowa, Mrs. Randy (Nancy) Dose of Evergreen, Colorado, Mrs. Michael (Therese) Gurr of Cranbrook, British Columbia and Miss Joan Bernard of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Leone Bernard of Anthon, Mrs. David (Mildred) Macken of Rochester, Minnesota, and Mrs. Joseph (Joan) Barnas of St. Paul, Minnesota, a brother, Frank of Anthon, and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, one son Bob, and two sisters.
