Naomi Araminta Dungan was born June 1, 1930, in Hale County, Texas, the daughter of Manley H. Dungan and Irene Coldwell. Naomi married Jack Hancock and they had one son, Jackie. Their tumultuous marriage ended in divorce. Naomi worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Oklahoma City for a number of years. She raised her son without any assistance and dedicated herself to making him into a strong young man with solid values. In about 1963, she met Milton Pledger, an Air Force sergeant, who was stationed at Tinker AFB. After a whirlwind courtship, they married and Naomi was exuberantly happy. Not long after, it was discovered that she had cancer, and after debilitating surgery and a courageous uphill battle, she quietly died in the base hospital on Tinker. Naomi was a kind and gentle person, with a quick and contagious laugh. She was only 34 years old when she died.
