John E. Gray, 78, of Greenfield died Jan. 17, 2001, at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis. Born July 25, 1922, in Greenfield, he was the son of Frank H. and Mayme (Wright) Gray.

He was retired from International Harvester. He was a member of Morristown American Legion and UAW Local 98. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, the former Lorene Goodwin, whom he married Feb. 14, 1942; sons Larry Gray of Maxwell and Phil and Richard Gray of Greenfield; daughter Becky Howell of Greenfield; brothers Richard Gary of Indianapolis and Gerald Gray of Greenfield; sisters Helena Faut of New Palestine and Dorothy Poland of Greenfield; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Milo Gray Sr. and Gene Gray; and sisters Ruth Williams, Josephine Eaks, Eva Leisure and Mary Tiner.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pasco Memorial Mortuary. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Hancock County.
