James Lamar Smith, 84, of Lubbock, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Franklin-Bartley Chapel. Burial followed in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park.

James was born August 11, 1924 in Center to John Arlin and Callie Ida (Haley) Smith. He served proudly in WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He married Minnie Lee Hodges on February 16, 1949 in Spur. She preceded him in death July 14, 2008. Mr. Smith worked for Adams Paint Contractors for 40 years and was a member of the Allied Painters Union. He enjoyed his family and fishing.

Survivors include his daughter, Jimmie Sue Lee and Husband Robert; two sons, Mitchell Smith and wife Johnnie, and Tommie Smith and wife Pat, all of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother, and two sisters.
