Reuben Thomas Ellwood was born on Wednesday; October 3, 1917 on a farm near Radcliffe, Iowa. He was the son of: Gustav & Torina (Olson) Eltervaag/Ellwood. Reuben graduated in 1936 from Ellsworth High School. Then Reuben met, Ruth Eloise McCollom. They were married in Nevada, Iowa on August 16, 1942. The newlyweds settled on a farm just south of Radcliffe to start their married life together. Then they moved to Colo, Iowa. In 1950 they bought a farm near Ellsworth, Iowa where they spent the rest of their married lives. In addition to farming, Reuben sold feed for Walnut Grove and farm seeds for Dekalb for 35 years. In the 1990's, Reuben and Ruth bought a trailer home in Alamo, Texas where they spent many winters and Reuben loved singing with a men's group. In 2002, his beloved wife Ruth died. In January, 2007, Reuben moved to Grand Forks, ND, where he lived at Tufte Manor and Woodside Village. Reuben was baptized in Salem Lutheran Church near Radcliffe, Iowa and was confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Radcliffe. Reuben has belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth for nearly 60 years. Reuben Thomas Ellwood, age 92, passed away on Sunday; May 9, 2010 at the Woodside Village in Grand Forks; Grand Forks County, North Dakota. Those left to mourn his passing are: His four children: Carol (Doug) Fosse of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Tom (Helen) Ellwood of Ellsworth, Iowa. Ginny (Jim) Bollman of Grand Forks, North Dakota and Archie (Sharon) Ellwood of Riverview, Florida. His nine grandchildren: Chris (Alana) Fosse, Kara Fosse Lian, Alisha Ellwood, Shana Ellwood (Andy) Tischaefer, Hilary Ellwood, Lana Bollman McArthur, Mitch Bollman, Archie "Ole" (April) Ellwood and Bart Ellwood. His eight great-grandchildren: Henry Ellwood Fosse, Ella Dawn Fosse, Gracie Ruth Lian, Jaxon Palmer Lian, Samuel Thomas Tischaefer, Coraline Faye Tischaefer, Alexander Lynn McArthur and James Reuben McArthur. His sister: Gertrude O'Dell of Yucaipa, California. His brother: Richard (Doris) Ellwood of Radcliffe, Iowa, His sisters-in-law: Ardis Ellwood of Forest City, Iowa, Grace Miller of Las Vegas, Nevada and Peg McCollom of Colo, Iowa. Reuben was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother: Stanley and sisters: Mildred Angello and Hazel Hahner. May they rest in peace. May God bless her memory and give strength to those that mourn. Reuben was a joy and gift to his family. For his quick wit, razor-sharp mind, moving poetry to his generosity and loving spirit, he will be remembered. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will begin at: 11:00 a.m. on Saturday; May 15, 2010 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth, Iowa. Interment will be at the Homewood Cemetery also in Ellsworth, Iowa. The Boeke Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
