James Marvin Garner, 83, of Sand Springs, passed from this life at his home on Friday, June 18, 2010. He was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on May 22, 1927, the son of James Frank Garner and Minnie Belle (Franklin) Garner. He and Thelma Cooper were married in Sand Springs on December 24, 1949 and had celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2009. He served his country in the United States Army. Marvin retired from CE Natco after 36 years of service. Marvin was a football fan and enjoyed watching games on TV and had just recently enjoyed them on a new big-screen TV. He also enjoyed gardening and was known for the beautiful flowers his gardens produced. Fishing was another pastime that he enjoyed. He is survived by his wife Thelma, a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and John Tate of Cleveland, OK, a grandson Jim Henderson and his wife Carol of Sand Springs. Also surviving is a sister, Margie Degerman of Omak, Washington. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Cecil Garner, Johnnie Garner, and Ted Garner, and a nephew, Mike Garner. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19th, and from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 20th. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2010 in the Mobley-Dodson Chapel with Rev. Fred Waldrep officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park under the direction of Mobley-Dodson.
