Jennie Callahan went home to her Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997. She was born Aug. 10, 1906 in Delaware County, Iowa, to Bernard and Minnie (Holthaus) Von Talge. She was one of seven children.

She attended a one-room country school until ninth grade when her family moved to the small town of Oneida. She graduated from Oneida High School on May 15, 1924.

She moved to Spokane in the fall of 1924 with a sister and brother-in-law. There she attended what is now Eastern Washington University.

On Dec. 13, 1926, she married Richard J. Fuls in Spokane. Shortly after, they moved to Yakima, where she continued to live after his death on June 15, 1939. She worked as a salesperson in several stores and then in the business office of Yakima Memorial Hospital.

In 1954, she moved to Seattle to be near her married daughter. She worked in the business office at Maynard Hospital until she married Francis (Rusty) W. Callahan on Aug. 30, 1958, and came to Thorp. Rusty preceded her in death on April 9, 1987.

She helped show cattle, and was active in the Thorp Community Church, Garden Club and Kittitas County Cowbelles.

Survivors include Betty Fulls Edenholm, Coupeville; Marie Callahan Maines, Vancouver, B.C.; Doris Callahan, Ellensburg; Don Callahan, Bainbridge Island; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
