Born in Jackson township, Montgomery county, Ohio and descended from the Wysong family of Ludwig and Maria (Hammer) Wysong that immigrated to Pennsylvania in the early 1700s.

Father Oty (Othea) Wysong and mother (1st wife of Oty) Catharine Coolman. Oty's second wife was Catherine's sister Malinda.

Madison and Oty both worked as stone masons and brick layers, the most frequently found family occupation.

Madison married Marie/Mary Philomena/Philimina Perrin on 22 January 1861 in or near Belleville, Illinois. They had their firstborn: Oliver Francis Wysong in nearby French Village and may have married there. Madison and Mary later lived in St. Louis, Mo.
