Harold Rexford Parsons was born in Frankfort, Michigan, to Frank Parsons and Hattie Satterlee Parsons. He married Reva McRoberts in St. Johns, Michigan, July 3, 1925 and they lived in Lansing where he was a painter and decorator. The couple had two sons.

Following his retirement in 1958 Harold and Reva moved to Silver Lake near Mears, Michigan to make their home.

Harold also served in World War I and then the Naval Reserve following active service. US Navy War Service Certificate (No. 120392) states, "This certifies that Harold R Parsons U.S.N.R.F. performed honorable active service in the United States Navy from June 4, 1918 to June 26, 1919 on board the following ships and stations: N.T.S. Great Lakes, Ill. R.S. at New York, USS Rijndam N T S Hampton Rds Va USS South Carolina. (Signed) James D. Ross, Lieutenant, USNRF Commanding Officer. (Stamped) U.S. Navy Demobilization Station, Pittsburgh, PA."
