Dan Smith, long time Unionville farmer and resident of Udell, found dead by his son.

Last evening, Sheriff Jack Bailey was called to Udell by the sudden death of Dan Smith, age 86, who was found dead at his home by his son, Preston. Investigation tended to show that Mr. Smith died of a heart attack.

Mr. Smith had come to Centerville with his son, Preston at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon and had called at a local doctor's office. He had returned to Udell shortly after 5
o'clock. Preston had gone uptown later in the evening and had returned to find his father lying near the stove where he apparently had gone to tend the fire.

Mr. Smith was widely known and had spent the larger portion of his life on a farm near Unionville and later in Udell. He was a successful farmer and member of the Fairview Church of the Brethren. His wife had preceeded him in death in July of last year. He was the youngest and last of a well known Appanoose County pioneer family.

Surviving are 3 daughters and one son as follows: Mrs. Ralph Shepherd of near Drakesville; Miss Vic. Smith of Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Mary Davis of Rock Island and Mr. Preston Smith at home.
