MARY AMANDA SHERBECK
Mary Amanda Sherbeck, daughter of Reuben and Emily Holeman, was born February 13, 1866 at Iola, Kansas and departed this life at the age of 83 years, three months and four days on May 17, 1949 at the Broken Bow hospital after an illness of over two years.
On October 2, 1881, she was united in marriage to Axel Sherbeck, and in 1888, they moved from Bedford, Iowa to a farm east of Westerville. To this union were born seven children, three of whom preceded her in death, Clarence, who died in infancy, Mrs. Florence L. Hickenbottom, and Irvin E. She also raised as her own, a granddaughter, Eileen Hickenbottom, now Mrs. Melvin Sherbeck of Ansley. At the age of eight, she became a member of the Methodist church and was a faithful member all her life. She was the third child in a family of seven children.
She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Herschel of Westerville, Mrs Verna Whitman, Arcadia, Mrs. Alice E. Giddings, Ansley, Mrs. Prudy E. Hunt, Arcadia, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, and one brother, Reuben I. Holeman of Arcadia.
Funeral services were held at the Westerville Methodist church, Friday May 13, with Rev. W.M. Hendrickson of Ansley, officiating, and Rev. Buehler, James Walker, Mrs. Frank Rinehart, Mrs. Ted Glover, with Mrs. Glover at the piano. Pallbearers were Sidney Vose, Ray Casteel, Johnny Collier, Albert Slingsby, Emmet Smith and Ellis Hyatt. Interment was in the lee Park cemetery.
