Mr. P.S. Monroe, who lived in the Mt. Carmel neighborhood, died last Thursday night in the 67th year of his age. During the civil war he served in the Federal army, making a good soldier. As a civilian, he was an honorable and much respected citizen. His funeral was preached by the pastor of the Methodist church, and many were present. He was a man who will be greatly missed in the neighborhood. He leaves [two] children. Peace to his memory.

Pleasant enlisted as a Private in the Union Army on Oct 10, 1863 at age 16. He was mustered into the 13th KY Cavalry Co. L on Dec 23, 1863. He was wounded at Burkesville, KY in Aug 1864. He was mustered out of service at Camp Nelson, KY on Jan 10, 1865.
