MARTIN LAMBERT DEAD.

Martin Lambert died at the homestead last night at 11 o'clock. He was 80 years old, and was unable to resist the inroads of cancer of the stomach. His illness has been long and painful and death brought a gentle relief. In his prime he was a man of force and was one of the strong men of his community. He came to Kansas twenty-five years ago and settled on the farm where he died. His life was successful so long as he was active, and he made a wife circle of friends in the community. Since his wife died five years ago, he has not been entirely strong and he sand gradually into the illness that ended his life.

He was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1842, and when a very young man pushed westward to Illinois, where he married and reared six boys to manhood. Five of these sons are living, and are vigorous, successful men. They are W. S. Lambert, president of a trust company in Philadelphia; M. Lambert, postmaster of Newkirk, Okla.; John Lambert, conductor on the Frisco; Finley Lambert, who operates the farm on which the father died, and Isaac E. Lambert, of Emporia. The two sons who were near him in his declining years, Finley and Isaac Lambert live in this community, and have spared no personal sacrifice to make his last days comfortable, and his sons who lived at a distance have come to him often and have cheered his last hours as well as they could. Death came peacefully and while it brought sorrow it was tempered with relief that the patient man's suffering was ended, and that he had entered into the great peace that passeth understanding.

For forty-five years, Mr. Lambert has been a Mason, and his funeral services will be held tomorrow at 10 o'clock under the auspices of the Masons at Americus. The interment will be made at Maplewood.

The children and grandchildren of the kind old man in this community, have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
