Ernie's family moved to Easton, Pennsylvania in about 1890, and lived on Delaware Drive, near present-day Route #611. They later moved to 822 Spring Garden Street in about 1903. Ernie lived there for the rest of his life. Ernie's parents and his sister, Elsie, also died at this residence.
Ernie was married to Edna Potts Tilton, born in Reading, Pa., who died during the Spanish Influenze epidemic in November 1918. She was pregnant with their first child when she died. She is buried in the Easton Heights Cemetery, next to her beloved husband, Ernie.
Ernie worked for many years in the silk department at the Bush & Bull department store in Easton's Center Square.
Ernie younger sister, Elsie, died in 1918. Ernie then raised Elsie's daughter, Kathryn, who was now an orphan. Kathryn later married Herman (originally Hyman) Pinskey in 1944. She lived with her uncle, Ernie, until his death on Sunday, October 31, 1971.
Ernie was a fine and decent man. He was patient, gentle, and good. Ernie is remembered by all for his kindness, and for his calm and soothing demeanor. He was greatly respected, and is greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. If more people in this world were like Ernest R. Tilton, the world would be an infinitely better place to live.
Mr. Tilton was my surrogate grandfather. David W. Seiple
