Services for Billy Allen Alexander, 71, of Lubbock, will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Oakwood United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven.

Billy, who was a loving husband, father, grandfather, mentor and friend, lost his extended battle with cancer June 15, 2008, and rests in the arms of his Savior. One of seven children, Bill was born in Tupelo, Miss., July 18, 1936. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. During his 20 year career, Bill served in stations throughout the world including a tour in Viet Nam. While assigned to the ROTC detachment at Texas Tech, Bill completed his BBA in, accounting and earned his CPA which he put to use in thirty two years of private practice in Lubbock.

Bill will be missed by his wife of twenty-eight years, Janell Alexander, and is survived by his five children/step children, Rhonda Medellin and husband Gabe, Cheryl Alexander, Connie Baird and husband Jim, Vicki DeVantier and husband Mark, and Ronnie Burns and wife Susan; and daughter-in-law Kay Alexander. Additionally he is survived by 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

An active member of Oakwood United Methodist Church, Bill served as a teacher, Bible study leader and church financial advisor. He was a long time member of the Texas Society of CPA's and the Masonic Lodge. Bill was recognized as the Business Associate of the Year by the American Business Women's Association in 1990.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother as well as his son Mark Alexander. He was loved and respected by both his family and friends and will be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Bill be made to Oakwood United Methodist Church: 2215 58th St, Lubbock TX 79412.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m.

Billy attended school with Elvis Presley, who was a year older. They both were from Tupelo, MS. Billy was our CPA for many years and he told us about going to school with Elvis before he was famous.
