The pallbearers were boyhood friends of the deceased: W. T. Richards, T. D. Davis, J. D. Thomas, C. R. Shearer, George Hawley and Frank Hawley.
The body was taken to Hawley cemetery for burial.
Evan H. Davis, son of Stephen and Martha (Humphreys) Davis, was born in Palmyra, Portage county, Ohio, Dec. 29, 1855 and died May 21, 1921, at the age of 65 years, 4 months, and 22 days. On June 21, 1899, he was united in marriage to Edith M. Griffith, who with the son Harold survive; also a sister Mrs. T. T. Williams of Wayland; a brother T. H. Davis of Palmyra; three nieces and nephews; who were all present at the funeral with the exception of one. A remarkable circumstance was the fact that Mrs. Davis' nine brothers and sisters were all attendants at the services.
Mr. Davis spent the most of his life on the farm in Paris Township which had been the home of his parents. He was one of the faithful members of the Macabee lodge of Wayland. He also held several offices of trust in the township. While not a member, he was always a contributor and attendant of the Wayland Baptist church.
Mr. Davis was a patient sufferer for two years and bedfast for nearly seven months. A peculiar feature was the fact that his death occurred on the same day and almost the same hour as that of a sister, 30 years ago.
