Elva C. Shaffer
GLEN ROCK – Elva C. (Krout) Shaffer, 97, of the Barbara J. Egan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury, formerly of Glen Rock, died at 2:30 a.m. Sunday at her home, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Stewart Shaffer. The couple observed their 75th wedding anniversary December 20.
The service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Viewing will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Shaffer was born August 22, 1903, in North Codorus Township. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Elva C. (Deveney) Krout.
She was a seamstress at Seven Valleys Garment Co., retiring in 1966 after several years of service; prior to that, she worked at several other local sewing companies. She was an honorary and charter member of Bon Air Country Club in Glen Rock, where she was a member of the Nine Holers Group; a member of the Bon Air Belles Bowling Team at Springfield Bowling Center in Loganville for several years; and a member of St. Paul (Zeigler's) Lutheran Church in Seven Valleys, York Hospital Auxiliary, Shrewsbury Lutheran Home Auxiliary and American Association of Retired Persons.
Mrs. Shaffer also is survived by nieces and nephews.
Officiating at the service will be her pastor, the Rev. Mark A. Billow.
