Don entered the Navy and served as a Seabee during WWII. He received an honorable discharge on December 19, 1945.

It is said that Don enjoyed traveling. He did not marry or have children.

Johnston Earl Whitlock,62, died Wednesday in a New York City hospital. Surviving are three brothers, Paul Whitlock, Lakeland, Fla., Otis Whitlock, Bassett, T. E. Whitlock, Portsmouth; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Dunn, St. Petersburg Fla., Mrs. Daisy Miller, Roanoke.
Stricklers Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
