Alayna Brianne Bowman was born on Sept. 1, 1993, in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. She was taken from us in a tragic car accident on June 23, 2010, at the age of 16. During Alayna's commendable young life she lived with her family in Germany, Hawaii, Louisiana, and back home in Fort Walton Beach.

She is the daughter of Mike and Linde Bowman; and sister of Mack. She is also survived by grandparents, Ross and Jenny Hamilton of Fort Walton Beach, and Robert Bowman of Auburn, Neb.; great-grandparents, Betty MacKendree of Pensacola, Fla., and Lonez Bullock of Fort Walton Beach; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Alayna attended Kenwood Elementary, Pryor Middle School, and was entering her senior year at Choctawhatchee High School. During middle school, Alayna was a cheerleader and was on the Pryor News Network. Her activities at Choctaw included serving as the Indian Princess, Inter Club Council - Historian, Junior and Senior Class Spirit Coordinator, a member of War Chiefs Spirit Club, LINK Crew, Okaloosa County Leadership Council, Extreme Etiquette Cotillion, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Wheelettes Service Club, and was a participant in the Miss CHS Pageant, once selected in the Top 10.

Alayna had a passion for journalism and a love of sports. She served as editor for the school newspaper at Choctaw, Smoke Signals and also as an anchor for WBGI-Tribal News. Alayna dreamed of working for ESPN and would have been a great success.

Alayna was a tremendous young woman, genuinely recognized as a kind, easygoing person liked by many, and loved by her family and dear friends. Her attitude was an asset to her and to those who knew her. For such an active young woman she always appeared to have time for all. Alayna was comfortable being herself. Her family and friends will miss her dearly and forever hold her in our hearts.
