MANSON - Lillian Luella Blakey, 106, of Manson Good Samaritan Care Center, died June 24, 2010. Following her wishes her body will be cremated and a private ceremony will be held at a later date. Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services are entrusted with arrangements.

Lillian was born February 17, 1904 to Axile and Neilly Halverson in Lake City, Iowa. She received her B.S. teaching certificate from Buena Vista, Storm Lake and a Master's degree from Drake University. She taught school in Lytton, Vinton, and Marshalltown. She taught 49 years of which 23 were in Marshalltown Elementary system. She retired at age 68 and then turned to volunteer work for Salvation Army until she was 100 years old. She helped in food pantry and served meals for the Salvation Army.

She was a life time member of the Alpha Delta Kappa teacher's sorority since it was established and helped organized several other chapters for teachers around the state. She always attended all local, state and national conventions.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Evorn and Ernest, three sisters Fern Casey, Gladys Fahan and Maxine McClintock, one niece Gloria Lou Kenlon. She is survived by three nephews Mike (Donna) McClintock, LeGuard, Gary (Jean) Fahan, Lake City and George Halverson, AZ; two nieces Mary Jo (Randy) Christensen, Manson, Jane (Bob) Daughtery, Hamilton, IL.
