She was the daughter of Horace Barton and Harriet Jones.

The 1850 census revealed he was a laborer, and was living in Brimfield, Portage County, Ohio with his Brother William.

The 1860 census revealed they had one daughter and one son living at home and his grandfather Levi Stoddard had been living with them and had died after June of 1860.

The 1870 census revealed he was a farmer, they had two sons and one daughter still at home and her parents were living with them. (The census taker mistakenly stated their last name as Benedict instead of Barton.)

The 1880 census revealed the had two sons and two daughters and that his mother was living with them.

The 1900 census revealed they had been married forty-nine years and that they had four children all still surviving. They had their fourteen year old grandson living with them.

The 1910 census revealed that one of their children had passed away, and they were now living with their son Albert and his family.
