LACONIA - Vivian A. Newton, 87, of 88 South Main St. died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on Thursday, June 24, 2010. She was the widow of Malcolm Newton who died in 1991.

Mrs. Newton was born June 1, 1923, in Laconia, the daughter of Eldred and Myrtie (Wright) Bailey. She was a lifetime resident of Laconia and had been employed at the Taylor Home.

Mrs. Newton was devoted to her family. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and her pets.

Survivors include three sons, Stanley M. Newton of Belmont, Donald S. Newton of Center Harbor and Ralph E. Newton of Dover, N.J.; three daughters, Lenda Cournoyer of Gilmanton, Donna S. Gilbert of Chichester and Priscilla M. Lachance of Belmont; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Newton was predeceased by a daughter, Sylvia Newton; a grandson, PFC Nicholas R. Cournoyer; one brother, Lloyd Bailey; and a sister, Irene Angers.

There will be no calling hours.

There will be a Graveside Service on Monday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at the family lot in Bayside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the PFC Nicholas R. Cournoyer Scholarship Fund, Gilmanton Elementary School, 1386 NH Rte. 140, Gilmanton Iron Works NH 03837.
