George E. Thaxton of Mt. Auburn died Thursday morning in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rachel Hirst, 435 North Morgan street. Mr. Thaxton was born January 8, 1848 in Manchester, Illinois, the son of Mr. & Mrs. John Thaxton. In 1869, he married Etna Grimes of Green county. To this union was born two children who died in infancy. Mrs. Thaxton preceded him in death also. In 1880, Mr. Thaxton married Lucy E. Bloxom of Mt. Auburn. They resided on a farm near Mt. Auburn until 1909. They moved to a farm near Greenville and lived there until 1920. Mr. Thaxton retired from active work and moved to Mt.Auburn. Mrs. Thaxton died in 1929. Mr. Thaxton is survived by the following sons and daughters: Grover and Kirk of Greenfield, Raymond of Whitehall, Norman of St. Louis, Mrs. Abbey Hooper and Mrs. Rachel Hirst of Decatur. He also leaves one brother, Felix P. Thaxton of Mt. Auburn, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The body was removed to the Moran Funeral Home and prepared for burial. Friends may call at the chapel after 5 o'clock Tuesday night and until Wednesday noon. The body will then be removed to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hirst. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in the First Christian church in Mt. Auburn and burial will be Mt. Auburn cemetery. Decatur, IL Daily Review April 28, 1931 p5
