Ramon Charles Sanders, 71, of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday, August 31 at TLC Serenity Home II in Grand Rapids.
Ramon was born at Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved with his family to Berlin, Wisconsin as a child. He graduated from Berlin High School in 1956 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed at the 707th Radar Base in Grand Rapids he met and married Esther Kingston. He retired from the Air Force in 1976 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. He returned to Wisconsin for three years before moving back to the Grand Rapids Area in 1979. He worked for the Department of Defense at the radar tower in Nashwauk until it was dismantled. He then worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture at the Grand Rapids Forestry Sciences Lab until retirement in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Alice Sanders, brothers Richard and Robert Sanders and sister, Mary Ann (Al) Leistikow.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Esther; children, Stanley (Mary) Sanders , Maple Grove, Minn., Cynthia (Woodrow) Miller, West Bend, Wisc., Richard (Ruth) Sanders, Crookston, Minn., Thomas (Dr. Stephanie) Sanders, Dayton, Minn., and Faith (Jim) Keenan, Grand Rapids; grandchildren; Danielle (Andrew) Pantztaff, Ashley Jo Sanders, Jacob Sanders, Rachel Sanders, Mickey Mendoza, Philip Keenan, Emma Faith Sanders, Lola Grace Sanders, and Amelia Hope Sanders; and a brother, Robin (Mary) Sanders, Trenton, Florida.
Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday Sept. 4 in the Libbey Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday Sept. 5 in Zion Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00.
Burial with full military honors will be in the Harris Township Cemetery.
