~~Other people's family records believe him to be Branson H. Kennedy from Choctaw County, Mississippi, so I will go with that.~~

B. H. Kennedy was born in Missisippi 1 Nov 1813. He married Eliza (?) from Alabama, in Mississippi.
**I was unable to find a marriage license on them
due to a fire in Choctaw County Courthouse that burn all the records of the time period they were married.**

1840 Federal US Census shows a Branson H. Kennedy living in Choctaw Co, Miss., indicating 1 male 20/30 yrs of age, 1 female 15/20 yrs of age, 2 females under 5 yrs of age.
Could it be that he had 2 daughters at the time and one did not live. Martha Jane was born in 1840.
1841 and 1845 Miss. State Census records him as being in the same county, no township listed. Miss. State Census records do not show family, just the individual.

He later moved his family to Texas, first settling in the Cherokee Co area, 1850 Census showing them in Rio Grande Vally, Cherokee, Texas. Later they moved to the Elkhart, Anderson County area. Possibility he was related to the Kennedy's that had already settled in the area.
Their children were;
Martha Jane b. 1840 b. Miss.
William Henry (son) b. 1842 Miss.
Mary Virginia b. 1844 Miss.
Cicero (son) b. 1854 Texas
Augustus E. (Gus) b. 1855 Texas

This is my G-G-G-Grandfather through Martha Jane Kennedy Watts, CONAWAY, Quarles. (Conaway being my line)

I have been unable to trace what happened to William Henry and Cicero Kennedy. Two of his sons.

I feel though that W.H. Kennedy joined the civil war.
I have found two records and yet I don't see how one of them is at all possible, due to where he had to enlist.
The other is a little remote as well, enlisting in Jefferson, Texas instead of Palestine, Texas.
I will keep researching this.

***Martha Jane does not show in their household in any of the census before she was married. I do not know who she was living with.
I know for a fact she is their daughter, due to a land deed of her daughter Emma Conaway Bennett. It shows that Martha Jane Quarles is her mother and B. H. and Eliza Kennedy are her grandparents. Regarding land bequeathed to her by her grandparents, B.H. and Eliza Kennedy.
