Virgie was the daughter of Thomas Barrett and Jennie Stewart. About 1908 she married Arthur Otto Hagelin and they had one son, Harvey Clyde, born Aug 5, 1918. They lived in Brainerd, Minnesota where Arthur worked as a plumber.

Their son Harvey served in the Marines during WWII. He was listed as missing in action in the South Pacific, and was hospitalized for a long while in Australia. His ID must have been lost, as he was unidentified, and apparently suffered amnesia. It took two years before he was able to regain his memory. Virgie never really recovered from the stress of her son being missing in action that long.

She died at the age of 73.
