DALHART - Bill Wilcoxson, 60, died Friday, June 25, 2010, in San Antonio.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Patterson, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart.

William "Bill" Eugene Wilcoxson, 60, passed away Friday, June 25. He was born in Dalhart on March 28, 1950, to Betty and Bob Wilcoxson. Bill married Erma Hernandez on April 3, 1982. Both Bill and Erma worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Dallas and Bill retired after 30 years with the company in employment/human resources, where he held numerous management positions.

After retirement from Southwestern Bell, he and Erma moved from Garland to Angel Fire, N.M., where they built a new home in the mountains they loved. He also worked for Angel Fire Resort as director of human resources and college recruiting for three years, where 800 workers were needed during each ski season.

Bill served others through various organizations including the Central Church of Angel Fire Pastor Search Committee where he was a member, Big Brothers Big Sisters as a mentor, the Organ Donor Board in Dallas, the National Service Employment and Redevelopment Association, United Way campaign coordinator for SWB, the Dallas Bar Association's Legal Ethics Committee Board, the La Plaza Community Relations Team, the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Hispanic/Latino Employees Resource Group of AT&T /HACEMOS, the Society of Human Resources Management and was a certified Franklin Covey trainer.

Bill attended West Texas State University and the University of Texas. He was an avid fan of the Longhorns and football of any kind. While in Austin, he played trumpet for the Nash Hernandez Big Band, having honed his music skills in his younger years as a member of the Dalhart Golden Wolf Band and Stage Band.

Bill loved the space program, followed every detail and had an opportunity to attend one of the space shuttle launches. He had aspirations of becoming an astronaut and wanted to go to the moon.

Other interests included golf (with a handicap of 10 at one point), fishing and history. He was especially interested in the Texas history of the Alamo and was quite the expert in "remembering the Alamo."

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty; and his grandparents, Dick and Helen Stout and Noel and Ruth Wilcoxson.

Survivors include his wife, Erma of Angel Fire; his father, Bob Wilcoxson of Dalhart; his mother, Julie Wilcoxson of Dalhart; a son, Brian Wilcoxson; and two grandchildren, Holly and Hayden Wilcoxson; four sisters, Kay Gaskill and husband Mark of Worthington, Ohio, Rosanne Priddy and husband Curtis of Seymour, Ann Lyons and husband Steve of San Angelo, and Amy Robert and husband Col. Leon Robert, West Point, N.Y.; a brother, John David and wife Leslie of Amarillo; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family suggests memorials be in honor of Bill Wilcoxson to American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, IL 60018.
