Emma was the first wife of William Henry Packard, who she married in Ingham County in 1859. They had two children, Clara (b. 1863) and Sherman (b. 1865). These two children are also interred in the North Cemetery and have memorials on this site. Sadly, the children both died in 1870 of scarlet fever.

Emma's cause of death is listed as consumption on her death certificate. She is also said to have been 27 when she passed away; her birth date varies from 1839-1841 on documents.

She was the second youngest of 11 children; her parents were Roswell and Rosamond (Packard) Everett. Roswell and Rosamond moved from Monroe County, New York, to Plymouth County, Michigan, in about 1834. More Packards followed them from NY to Plymouth, MI, and eventually on to Ingham County.

In 1841, when Emma must have been a baby, her parents moved the family to Ingham County to the house you see pictured here. This house still stands as of 2010, and is now a historical site. Emma's father was the founding supervisor of Delhi Township, Ingham County.

Emma's husband, William Henry Packard, was a farmer and later took over his father's hotel in Lansing, which was named the Everett House in honor of the Packard/Everett family ties first formed in New York. Emma is described as a "farmer's wife" on her death record.
