The Atchison Champion, Thursday, 5 January 1899
Adam Roth, who has been a great sufferer for months, died last night at 6:30 at his home at 506 North Ninth street. His trouble was a tumor and abscess of the stomach. He was 67 years of age and had lived in Atchison nearly five years, before coming here being prominent farmer near Easton, Leavenworth country. A wife and five children survive him. The funeral will probably occur tomorrow from St. Benedict's church. Peter Roth of Seaton's foundry, is the only child of the deceased who lives in Atchison at the present time. J. K. Roth, who used to run a blacksmith shop here, but who afterward moved to Kansas City, is another son. Mrs. William Dawes is the only daughter who will be able to attend the funeral as the other daughters live in Pennsylvania and California. Mr. Roth's death was unexpected, as he seemed much better in the morning, and it was thought he would likely live for several months, or weeks anyway. He was taken worse in the afternoon and died at the time above mentioned.
